DHAKA, Nov 10, 2025 (BSS) - Two new prosecution witnesses (PWs) today testified in a case lodged over crimes against humanity committed in the capital's Rampur area during the July Mass Uprising, where a youth hanging from the cornice of a building, was shot repeatedly and two others were killed.

Md Kamrul Hasan, 45, and A Rahman, 39, wireless operators of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) testified as PW-7 and 8, respectively at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1.

Kamrul, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) narrated how then DMP commissioner and prime accused Habibur Rahman, with call-sign Victor Mike-1, ordered his men on wireless to apply maximum force to disperse the protesters at around 11 to 11.30 am on July 17, 2024.

"He ordered to shoot at protesters by Chinese rifles from kneeling position. As a dispatcher, me and my team relayed an audio message in this connection to all the units of DMP through wireless," he said.

A Rahman, on the other hand, used to work as a wireless operator at Rampura Police Station, and described how police and BGB personnel disbanded the protesters around the station, by opening fire on them on July 19, 2024.

"It was Friday. At around 2pm, devotees after offering Jumma prayers came out of mosque near the police station. A huge number of people, who were Anti-Discrimination Movement activists, converged in the area soon. I informed the matter to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moshiur Rahman, who was in BTV Headquarters area at the time, through wireless. Duty officer too informed the matter to the OC. Within a short period of time, OC Moshiur Rahman sir and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rashed sir reached police station on an APC of BGB," he said.

The young wireless operator stated that following the orders of OC and ADC, protesters were dispersed by opening fire on them, adding, "I was in the police station at the time and heard the sound of shootings."

"I later got to learn one Nadim was killed in Seluner Goli, where a little baby and his grandmother were also got shot. Later learned that the grandmother died," he further said.

The prosecution had submitted the formal charges in the case on August 7, 2025, alleging police firing on a student hanging from a building cornice in Rampura and the killing of two others in the area.

On September 18, ICT-1 framed charges against former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former ADC of Khilgaon Zone Md Rashedul Islam, former OC of Rampura Thana Md Moshiur Rahman, former Sub-Inspector Tariqul Islam Bhuiyan, and former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chanchal Chandra Sarkar. Of the five accused, Chanchal has been arrested and is now facing the trial in person.
