DHAKA, Nov 25, 2025 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said the government is ready to work sincerely on any policy support or environmental intervention that can bring real benefits to the lives of the Munda community.
"Even if we cannot completely solve their problems, we can at least start the journey of solutions," she said while virtually speaking at an event titled "National Sharing Meeting: From Impact to Action - Mainstreaming Climate Resilience for the Munda Community" held at a city hotel.
Rizwana said the Munda community is one of the most climate-vulnerable communities in Bangladesh.
Their traditions, nature-dependent lifestyle and limited socioeconomic capacity are becoming more fragile due to the impacts of climate change, she said.
"Despite having a deep connection with nature, you (Munda community) are now suffering the most from climate fragility, water scarcity, land crisis and health risks," the environment adviser said.
She expressed regret that in many cases, the customary rights of the Munda community are ignored and their access to forests and natural resources is hampered.
"We are always ready to take pragmatic steps by respecting your needs, traditional lifestyle and rights," Rizwana said.
Chaired by President of Breaking the Silence and Editor of Dainik Ittefaq Tasmima Hossain, the meeting was attended, among others, by Director General of Department of Social Services Md Saidur Rahman and President of Munda Community's Self Help Suradhani Munda.
The speakers at the event highlighted the need for improving the standard of life of the Munda community, protecting their rights, ensuring their participation in the equitable use of natural resources and increasing climate tolerance.
