Chief Justice pays farewell call on President

DHAKA, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) - President Mohammed Shahabuddin lauded the long and glorious career of Chief Justice (CJ) Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed as he paid a farewell call on him at Bangabhaban here today.

“During the meeting, the Chief Justice expressed his sincere gratitude to the President for his heartfelt cooperation in discharging his duties,” said a spokesperson of the Bangabhaban this afternoon.

The President was apprised by the CJ of the different steps and overall activities undertaken during his tenure. 

The President mentioned his (CJ) professionalism, dedication and contribution to the establishment of justice in Bangladesh.

Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed was appointed as the Chief Justice on August 10 last year.

As per the Constitution, Syed Refaat Ahmed, country’s 25th Chief Justice is going on retirement after completing the age of his 67 years.

His last working day will be on December 27. However, his judicial career ends today due to the vacation leave on December 27.
