DHAKA, Jan 06, 2026 (BSS) - Education Adviser Prof Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar today said the true success of teaching lies not only in helping talented students move ahead, but more importantly in engaging those who are lagging behind in the learning process and bringing them forward.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the closing and certificate-awarding ceremony of the four-month-long 206th foundation training course for BCS General Education Cadre officers, held at the auditorium of the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) in the capital.

Prof Abrar said, “Labeling a student as weak or bad because he or she is lagging behind is a wrong approach. Rather, it should be seen as a challenge for the teacher—why he or she is failing to make the lesson understandable.”

He advised teachers to be more empathetic toward students who are comparatively weaker or falling behind, instead of focusing only on the most meritorious ones, and to engage them more intensively in the teaching process.

Urging teachers not to view teaching merely as a regular job, the adviser said it is a noble responsibility to be upheld throughout one’s life.

He added that teachers must play a leading role in nation-building by combining the benefits of government service with the profound joy and dignity of the teaching profession.

Professor Abrar said, “The honor of teaching does not come automatically; it must be earned through one’s conduct, competence, and values.”

He called upon teachers to stay away from the mire of partisan politics and to reach the highest professional standards through their own merit and performance.

Director General (Additional Charge) of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Professor BM Abdul Hannan along with senior education officials and training experts, were also present with NAEM Director General (routine duty) Professor Dr. Shah Md. Amir Ali in the chair.

Later, the chief guest distributed certificates among the teachers who successfully completed the 206th foundation training course and awarded medals for outstanding performance.
