153 students of HSTU receive national science and technology fellowships

DINAJPUR, Jan 15, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 153 students of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) have been nominated for fellowships under the National Science and Technology Fellowship Programme of the Ministry of Science and Technology for the current fiscal year.

The information was confirmed in a press release issued at 11:00 am today by Md Khademul Islam, Director of the Public Relations Department of HSTU.

According to the press release, fellowships have been awarded in three categories - Food and Agricultural Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences and Physical Sciences. Of the total recipients, 152 students have been awarded fellowships at the Master's level, while one student has been selected for a PhD fellowship in Microbiology.

The Ministry of Science and Technology informed the university authorities of the final nominations through its official website on January 14.

Among the recipients, 124 students have been selected under the Food and Agricultural Sciences category, 20 students under Physical Sciences, and eight students under Biological and Medical Sciences.

Faculty-wise, 86 fellows are from the Faculty of Agriculture, followed by 32 from the Veterinary Faculty, seven from the Fisheries Faculty, and seven from the Faculty of Engineering. In addition, nine students are from the Department of Mathematics, four each from Statistics and Chemistry, two from Physics, and one from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.

Under the fellowship programme, each Master's-level recipient will receive Taka 54,000 as research grants, while the PhD fellow will receive Taka 3 lakh.

The fellowship programme has been in operation since the 1977-78 fiscal year, aiming to promote research in Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, and Food and Agricultural Sciences. 

The ministry awards the fellowships through a competitive process involving application submission, screening, and interviews conducted by expert committees.

University sources said the nominated students are expected to receive the fellowship benefits very soon, which will significantly support their ongoing research activities.
