KHAGRACHARI, Jan 16, 2026 (BSS) - Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma today said the Chief Adviser is taking strong measures to ensure a transparent, credible, and widely accepted election, with around 90 percent of polling centers to be brought under closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance.
Speaking at a view-exchange meeting on the referendum and voter motivation campaign at Khagrachari Town Hall this afternoon, Supradip said the upcoming election would go beyond traditional practices to enhance transparency and accountability.
"To make the election transparent, about 90 percent of polling centers will be monitored through CCTV, and police personnel at each center will also be equipped with body cameras," he said.
He added that the cameras would not have the option to be switched off at will. The body cameras for police personnel have already arrived in the country, and distribution is currently underway.
"As a result, no one will have the opportunity to engage in misconduct or act arbitrarily at polling centers during this election," the adviser said.
Supradip emphasized the importance of building a modern state by strengthening key institutions, including the constitution, judiciary, electoral system, public administration, police, and the Anti-Corruption Commission.
He said a modern Bangladesh could be achieved by implementing the "July National Charter," envisioned by the July movement. "If people cast a 'yes' vote in the referendum, we can build a modern Bangladesh in line with the spirit of July," he added.
The adviser called on all concerned to cooperate in ensuring a victory for the 'yes' vote in the referendum.
Khagrachari Hill District Council Chairman Shefalika Tripura, Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud, representatives of the July uprising, and officials from various government organizations also addressed the meeting. Khagrachari Deputy Commissioner Anwar Sadat presided over the event.
