
CHANDPUR, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) - A delegation of the European Union (EU) election observer mission today visited Chandpur to observe the situation of the upcoming 12th parliamentary polls.
The members of the observer team held a view exchange meeting with journalists from various media outlets at Chandpur Press Club here. During the meeting, they gathered information on the election environment, grassroots-level preparations, the role of journalists and the overall situation.
The EU observer delegation included Maya Hurlimann and Lars Plagmann.
During the discussion, the delegation stated that a 56-member EU election observer mission is currently in Bangladesh in connection with the national parliamentary election scheduled to be held on February 12. Of them, a three-member team is holding meetings with various election-related stakeholders in the districts of Chandpur, Cumilla and Brahmanbaria.
As part of the process, they visited the office of the District Returning Officer, the District Administration, the Police Department, the District Election Office, and the Chandpur Press Club.
The delegation also informed that the EU observer mission would remain in Bangladesh for seven days more after the election to observe the overall situation.
Chandpur Press Club President Sohel Rushdi and General Secretary M A Latif welcomed the EU observer team on the occasion.
