KHULNA, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) - Food and Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumdar today said people are the owners of the country and none but they will choose 'managers' to run the state in the 13th parliamentary election, slated for February 12.

On that day, voters will cast ballots on two separate papers -- one to elect members of parliament and the other for a referendum, the adviser told a public awareness campaign on the referendum as the chief guest at Shaheed Hadis Park in the city this afternoon.

He said the contributions and sacrifices of those involved in the 2024 July Mass Uprising were undeniable, noting that their aspiration was to govern the country in a new way beyond the traditional practices.

In line with that vision, the July National Charter 2025 was formulated by integrating proposals from various reform commissions to renovate the prevailing political culture, he added.

Calling for public support to build a "New Bangladesh," Ali Imam Majumdar urged voters to cast a 'Yes' vote in the referendum to recognize the charter.

Divisional Commissioner Md Mokhtar Ahmed presided over the programme.

Khulna Range DIG Md Rezaul Haque, Superintendent of Police Md Mahbubur Rahman and Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Md Rashidul Islam Khan addressed the meeting as special guests.

Assistant Information Officer of Khulna Divisional District Information Office Tarun Kumar Mondal delivered the welcome speech. Officials and employees of various district offices and people from all walks of life attended the programme.

Awareness videos promoting the 13th national parliamentary election and the referendum were also screened using campaign vehicles at the event.
