DHAKA, Feb 13, 2026 (BSS)- BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that the biggest challenge for the next government is revitalizing the economy, maintaining law and order, curbing corruption, and establishing justice.

He said, "In the 13th parliamentary elections, the BNP has won 209 seats out of 299. Having a secured majority, we will form the next government under the leadership of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The BNP Secretary General made these remarks while responding to questions from journalists outside the domestic terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this afternoon, upon returning to Dhaka from his constituency in Thakurgaon.

Expressing his feelings about the election results, Mirza Fakhrul said, "This result is, on one hand, joyous, and on the other hand, melancholic. It is melancholic that our party's late Chairperson and Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia, could not live to see this unprecedented victory."

"Following the mass uprising of students and the public, achieved at the cost of hundreds of lives, a wonderful, festive, and transparent election has been held... I am personally definitely overwhelmed and impressed. If we can maintain this continuity, we will be able to preserve the continuity of democracy," he added.

When asked about their thoughts on the Awami League, which did not participate in the election, the BNP Secretary General said, "The Election Commission has already made a decision regarding the Awami League; their activities have been prohibited."

"Future decisions regarding them will emerge from the various political contexts that arise later."

From the airport, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir proceeded to the party chairman's office in Gulshan. There, the BNP Secretary General congratulated party Chairman Tarique Rahman by presenting him with flowers. During this time, members of the party's Standing Committee Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed, along with Adviser to the Chairman's Council Ismail Zabihullah, were present.
