State Minister for Health vows collective efforts to eliminate blindness

DHAKA, April 2, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M A Muhit reaffirmed Bangladesh's commitment to global efforts aimed at eliminating blindness, emphasizing the need for coordinated action among stakeholders worldwide.

He made the remarks while attending a three-day 'World Eye Conference' in Bangkok, Thailand, focused on preventing visual impairment and advancing global eye health.

The conference was organized by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), a leading global platform comprising governments and international donor agencies.

A five-member Bangladesh delegation, led by Dr. Muhit, took part in the conference held from March 31 to April 2.

During the event, the State Minister presented a keynote paper and called for strengthened collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure sustainable progress in global eye health. 

He also reiterated Bangladesh's strong commitment to supporting international initiatives in this sector.

The delegation highlighted the country's achievements in expanding eye care services and outlined various initiatives undertaken to improve access and quality in the field.
