DHAKA, April 5, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said that there is no scope for division over religion for political reasons.
"We must rise above all forms of division and hatred to build a Bangladesh founded on mutual love and brotherhood," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a greeting exchange ceremony on the occasion of Easter Sunday for the Christian community in Bhatara here this morning.
Referring to certain political forces that want to use religion as a weapon, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Some forces are trying to create division in society. They also deny the spirit of the Liberation War. We must bid a permanent farewell to the word 'hatred' from our society."
He said, "Let love and harmony for people, instead of hatred, be the driving force of our journey ahead."
Mirza Fakhrul said, "Bangladesh, on one hand, embraces Islam, and on the other hand, followers of the Sanatana (Hindu) faith are also interwoven here. Followers of Christianity and Buddhism are also an inseparable part of this soil."
Greeting the Christian community, the LGRD Minister said, "With your support and cooperation, we want to build a prosperous Bangladesh in the future. We believe all work must be accomplished by taking everyone along."
Regarding the ongoing fuel crisis in the country, the minister said, "Even amidst the crisis caused by the global situation, the government is continuing efforts to import fuel from abroad, giving due importance to the matter. This is very unfortunate."
He further said, "The minister of the concerned ministry has repeatedly said that there is sufficient stockpile of fuel. Yet, it is seen that some people, in panic, are repeatedly taking fuel on their motorcycles."
The BNP Secretary General said, "BNP has formed the government with your help under the leadership of Tarique Rahman; for this, we are grateful to you. We will move forward with the truth."
