DHAKA, April 18, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Spokesperson Mahdi Amin today said the opposition party is creating obstacles to the country's progress instead of cooperating with the government's positive initiatives in the past two months.

"We thought that the Opposition Party would extend overall cooperation with the positive steps taken by the government under the leadership and guidance of the Prime Minister Tarique Rahman within this short period," he told a press conference at the PMO, marking the completion of the first two months of the BNP government.

"But we have seen that instead of doing that, they chose alternative paths, including creating chaos in parliament, threatening protests on the streets, and spreading rumors and propaganda, which are obstacles to the country's progress," Mahdi added.

About the Prime Minister's place in the Time magazine's most influential people, he said it was a matter of "great joy and pride" that the Prime Minister and "people's leader" Tarique Rahman has been included in TIME magazine's list of the 100 Most Influential People in the world for 2026.

"Through this recognition, his visionary leadership, immense courage, and outstanding contribution to restoring democracy have been acknowledged internationally," Mahdi added.

At the press conference, the PMO spokesperson highlighted the government's landmark 60 initiatives taken over the last two months.
