Painting competition prize-giving held at CU marking Shaheed Zia's birth anniv

CHITTAGONG UNIVERSITY, April 23, 2026 (BSS) - A prize-giving ceremony for a painting competition and an Eid reunion were held at Chittagong University (CU) marking the 90th birth anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. 

Shaheed Zia Smriti Sangsad organized the programme at the auditorium of the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries this afternoon. 

CU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Forkan attended the programme as the chief guest. 

Science Faculty Dean Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Amin, Law faculty Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Zafar Ullah Talukder and Marine Sciences and Fisheries Faculty Dean Prof Dr Md Shahadat Hossain were present as special guests.

In his speech, the VC said, "After a long time, an opportunity has been created to discuss the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in a democratic environment. The Bangladeshi nationalism introduced by Ziaur Rahman is a philosophy of people's emancipation, values and beliefs."

Prof Dr Mohammad Al-Amin said such initiatives would inspire students. Emphasizing the importance of learning accurate history, he added that history should be known objectively without ignoring any part of it. 

Presiding over the programme, Shahid Zia Smriti Sangsad President Prof Dr Md Shafiqul Islam said the event was arranged to present the ideals and memories of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman to the new generation.

The programme began with recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem. It was conducted by General Secretary of the organization Md Abdul Sabur and Joint General Secretary Mohammad Selim.

At the end of the programme, winners of the painting competition were awarded crests, certificates, books and saplings.
