Natya Utsab 2026 to begin at JU on April 28

Jahangirnagar University, Apr 23 (BSS) - A four-day theatre festival titled 'Natya Utsab 2026' will begin on April 28 at Jahangirnagar University (JU) with the slogan "Let People Live with the Smile of Children".

Organised by Jahangirnagar Theatre, the festival will continue till May 1, featuring a series of plays and cultural events aimed at promoting artistic expression and cultural practices on campus. 

According to the schedule, stage performances will be held every day at 6:30 pm at Selim Al Deen Muktomoncho. 

On the opening day, Dhaka Theatre will stage 'Rongmohol', while the second day will feature 'Ashwathama', produced by Jahangirnagar Theatre.

On April 30, a special programme titled 'Midnight Poetry and Songs' will be held at the university transport area, adding a unique dimension to the festival. The concluding day on May 1 will host a reunion programme at Room No. 3 of ZahirRaihan Auditorium.

As part of the festival, the Jahangirnagar Theatre Award 2026 (Theatre Personality) will be conferred on Dilara Zaman, while Arun Kumar Basak will receive recognition as an education personality. 

Besides, the Alok Kumar Roy Award 2026 will be awarded to cultural personality and theatre activist Mahisina Akter.

Organisers said the festival will remain open to all and is expected to play a significant role in sustaining the continuity of cultural practices on campus.
