Student politics demands discussion in parliament: Anee

SANGSAD BHABAN, April 23, 2026 (BSS) - Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today said student politics should be discussed in parliament.

Taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion on the President's speech in the House, he said, like the energy situation, the issue of student politics also demands discussion in parliament. 

Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram was in the chair.

The minister said the nation does not want to see aggressive student politics that reminds the country of the fascist regime after the July uprising. 

He said the opposition should discuss the issue in the House and reaches a consensus that such aggressive student politics should not be allowed in the country in the interest of maintaining political etiquette. 

"There may be different political ideologies, but all political leaders should have a common goal of working for the greater interest of the country," said Anee, also lawmaker for Lakshmipur-3.

The first session of the 13th parliament began on March 12, with President Mohammed Shahabuddin delivering his address.

The Business Advisory Committee later fixed 50 hours for discussion on the speech. Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam moved the motion of thanks on the President's address, which was seconded by Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu.

Participating in the discussion, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mohammad Abdul Muhit said the parliament has already created an atmosphere for building a new Bangladesh. He added that the government has taken initiatives to decentralize health services to improve the sector.

State Minister for Road Transport, Highways Division and Railways Habibur Rashid said the government is planning to bring dynamism to the communication sector.

Another opposition lawmaker Md Azizur Rahman of Jessore-1 said both ruling and opposition parties should work together in the greater interest of the country, which is possible through mutual understanding and harmony.

BNP lawmakers Hafiz Ibrahim of Bhola-2, Jainul Abedin of Barishal-3, Alamgir Mohammad Mahfuzullah Farid of Cox's Bazar-2, Rezaul Karim Badsha of Bogura-6, Shahjahan Chowdhury of Cox's Bazar-4, opposition lawmakers Gazi Enamul Huq of Jessore-5, Md Muktar Ali of Jessore-6, Ruhul Amin of Chuadanga-2, Abdul Wares of Gaibandha-5, Mir Ahmad Bin Quashem of Dhaka-14, also participated in the discussion.
