DHAKA, May 20, 2026, (BSS) - Secondary and Higher Education Division (EHED) Secretary Abdul Khaleque has directed officials to ensure the delivery of fully revised and error-free textbooks to students for the next academic year.
“No negligence or irregularities in delivering revised textbooks on time for the 2027 academic year will be tolerated. At the same time, the actual history of national life — from the Liberation War to the historic student-people uprising of July-August 2024 — including the contributions and achievements of all concerned, is being incorporated into textbooks without any distortion,” he said.
He made the remarks at a meeting with senior officials of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) at its office to review preparations for distributing revised textbooks for the upcoming academic year.
After the meeting, the secretary spoke to journalists.
Responding to a query over revisions to history textbooks and inclusion of new content, Khaleque said the historical contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman are being included in textbooks for the 2027 academic year. Descriptions of November 7 as the ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, also referred to as the “Sepoy-People’s Revolution,” will be included across all secondary-level classes, he added.
He said it has been decided to incorporate the background of the Sepoy-People’s Revolution and detailed accounts of events from November 3 to November 7 in textbooks. Work related to this is currently underway, he added.
The secretary said that, simultaneously, contributions of BNP former Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to the anti-autocracy movement against Ershad and the mass uprising are being included in textbooks from primary level through Class-IX. This will include her historic alliance-building efforts, imprisonment, house arrest, and uncompromising leadership in street movements, he added.
The Secondary and Higher Education Secretary said that, particularly in the secondary-level textbook “Bangladesh History and World Civilization,” content is being added on the November 7 Sepoy-People’s Revolution, Khaleda Zia’s contributions to the anti-autocracy movement, and detailed accounts of the declaration of independence, alongside the history of various sectors and forces in the Liberation War and the contributions of all concerned.
Khaleque also informed journalists that NCTB has prepared a specific plan and roadmap to ensure the printing and distribution of nearly 30 crore textbooks for the next academic year are completed without complications.
He said, “NCTB experts are working very efficiently according to this roadmap. Processes including finalizing the curriculum, selecting books, and issuing work orders will be completed gradually within this month.
If there are any administrative obstacles to making this initiative successful, the ministry will provide all necessary support to remove them.”
The education secretary said, “Those who performed poorly in the past or attempted to supply substandard books at the last moment will be thoroughly scrutinized before being awarded printing contracts this year. Ensuring full transparency in textbook printing activities is our primary goal.”
The meeting was attended by the NCTB chairman, other board members, and senior officials.
