DHAKA, June 3, 2026 (BSS) - The government has withdrawn Mongla Port Authority Member (Joint Secretary) A.K.M. Anisur Rahman and attached him to the Ministry of Public Administration following allegations of negligence linked to the death of his elderly mother in the capital's Mirpur area.

The decision was made through a gazette notification issued by the ministry today.

The ministry said the official must be released from his current workplace and join his reassigned post by tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise, he will be deemed immediately released, or placed on stand release.

The development comes after the body of 70-year-old Nurjahan Begum was recovered from her residence in Mirpur-11 area on May 31. Police said the body was found in a decomposed state, sparking widespread public discussion and concern.

Law enforcement officials said the deceased had three sons -- one a joint secretary, another a BUET teacher and the third residing in Canada.

Following the incident, allegations surfaced that despite their financial stability and professional success, the sons failed to properly care for their elderly mother, leading to questions over social responsibility and family values.

Public administration officials said disciplinary or legal action may be considered under the Parents Maintenance Act depending on further investigation.
