
DHAKA, June 19, 2026 (BSS) - Bridge Division Secretary and Executive Director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority Mohammad Abdur Rouf today conducted an on-site inspection of the Jamuna Bridge area and various ongoing development activities under the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC)-2 project.
During the visit, he reviewed the progress, quality, and implementation activities of the projects according to the scheduled timelines and provided necessary directives to concerned officials, consultants, and representatives of contracting firms.
At the beginning of the inspection, the secretary inspected the deck widening activities following the removal of the abandoned railway tracks from the Jamuna Bridge.
He said, with the commissioning of the new Jamuna Railway Bridge, the removal of the old railway infrastructure and deck expansion will significantly enhance the functionality and capacity of the Jamuna Bridge. As a result, vehicular movement will become safer, smoother, and more comfortable, and the bridge will gain greater capability to handle future growing traffic demands.
Subsequently, he inspected the ongoing pot bearing replacement works on the Jamuna Bridge. On this occasion, he emphasized the importance of this work in ensuring the structural safety and long-term durability of the bridge.
The bridge secretary also inspected the ongoing river training works in the western guide bund area of the Jamuna Bridge.
Highlighting the importance of such activities in protecting the guide bund and bridge infrastructure from the effects of river flow, erosion, and changes in the riverbed, he stressed the need for regular monitoring, use of quality materials, and completion of work according to approved designs and specifications.
During one phase of the inspection, the Bridge Secretary reviewed the progress of the four-lane road, Elenga Flyover, and associated infrastructure development activities being implemented under the SASEC-2 project.
Md. Bhikharuddoula Chowdhury, Director (P&D) and Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Bridge Authority, Superintending Engineer Abul Kalam Azad, Md. Khaled Hossain, Deputy Secretary of the Bridge Division, Md. Golam Mortuza, Additional Project Director of the SASEC-2 project, officials from the site office, consultant representatives and representatives of contracting firms were present during the visit.
