
DHAKA, June 19, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and the Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) have expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Al Mujahidi, an Ekushey Padak-winning poet, researcher and former literary editor of The Daily Ittefaq.
In a condolence message today, BFUJ President Obaidur Rahman Shaheen, Secretary General Kader Gani Chowdhury, DUJ President Md Shahidul Islam and Acting General Secretary Md Didarul Alam Didar prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to bereaved family.
Poet Al Mujahidi passed away today at 1:40 pm while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital in the capital aged 83.
According to Dr. Monowarul Islam, Secretary of the Deshiya Sangskritik Sangsad (National Cultural Council), the first namaz-e-janaza for Mujahidi will be held at Jatiya Press Club at 12noon tomorrow.
Following a second Janaza prayer after Zuhr at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, he will be laid to rest at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Cemetery.
Quoting poet's son Shabib Al Mujahidi, Dr. Islam said that Al Mujahidi had been admitted to the hospital in critical condition last Wednesday.
During treatment, he suffered multiple cardiac arrests. He had been battling several health complications, including a blood infection, kidney problems and heart-related ailments.
