Budget announcement does not trigger commodity price hike for first time: Azad

PANCHAGARH, June 20, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad today said that for the first time in the history of Bangladesh, prices of essential commodities have remained stable following the announcement of the national budget. 

He made the remarks while exchanging views with journalists after distributing humanitarian aid among families affected by various natural disasters at the Boda Upazila Parishad premises in the district.

Forhad Hossain Azad said, "The opposition party is calling this budget an imaginary one, but no dream can be realized without proper planning. Large-scale planning and far-reaching goals are essential for the country's development."

Earlier, attending the distribution ceremony as the chief guest, he distributed cash, rice, and goats among the affected families.

Speaking on the occasion, the state minister assured that Panchagarh would receive its fair share of development in line with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's commitment to regional equity.

He noted that development works to reshape Boda and Debiganj upazilas have already begun in line with his electoral pledges.

He said the proposed Debiganj Economic Zone has already been inspected. Plans have also been taken to construct a mini-stadium in Boda upazila and renovate roads to improve the town's infrastructure. In addition, initiatives have been undertaken to upgrade the 100-bed Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital to a 250-bed facility and reopen several long-shuttered industrial units.

During the event, the state minister distributed a total of Tk 1.68 lakh in cash assistance, 41 metric tons of rice among disaster-affected families, and 60 goats to as many families to help them become self-reliant.

Boda Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Robiul Islam, Upazila BNP President Abdul Mannan, General Secretary Asadullah Asad, among other local political and administrative officials, were present.

Later, the state minister visited river erosion-prone areas in Boda and Debiganj upazilas to inspect potential dam construction sites and inaugurated development activities at several educational institutions.
