DHAKA, July 16, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam today announced that volunteer organization BD Clean will work with the two Dhaka city corporations to strengthen cleanliness and greening initiatives.
"Indiscriminate littering has been clogging drains, canals and water bodies, causing waterlogging. Active public participation, alongside government efforts, is essential to build a clean city," he said.
He made the remarks while delivering the chief guest's speech at a views-exchange meeting with BD Clean on cleanliness and greening in Dhaka city.
The meeting was held at the conference room of the Local Government Division at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
The state minister said initiatives would be taken to coordinate BD Clean's voluntary activities with the Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation to make the organisation's programmes more institutionalised and sustainable.
To this end, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed between the two city corporations and BD Clean, he said.
He added that the two city corporations would provide the necessary logistical support and supply saplings for tree plantation programmes.
"Changing long-standing habits takes time, but positive change is possible through continuous awareness programmes," he noted, urging collective efforts to realize the goal of building a clean, green and liveable Bangladesh.
Mir Shahe Alam also called for intensifying cleanliness drives to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
A 12-member delegation of BD Clean attended the meeting.
BD Clean Chief Coordinator Champa Akter outlined the organisation's activities and sought government support to further expand its programmes.
Scholars, experts and concerned officials were present at the meeting.
