Govt response to flood affected people continues

DHAKA, July 17, 2026 (BSS) - The government has been continuing its response activities to address the evolving situation caused by flash floods, landslides and hill collapses in the country's southeastern and northeastern districts.

According to reports provided by district and upazila information offices, as well as regional offices of the Department of Mass Communication under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

As per reports, the relevant government offices and agencies are continuing public awareness campaigns on flash floods, landslides, hill collapses and other natural disasters.

The latest report from the Chattogram District Information Office said Local Warning Signal No. 3 has been advised following the weather forecast, with rainfall expected over the next two to three days.

The report said 9,208 houses were partially damaged and 6,020 houses completely destroyed. A total of 405 educational institutions were damaged, while 1,592 kilometres of roads and 169 bridges and culverts were affected in the district.

As of today, the death toll stood at 16.

A total of 670 shelters had been opened in the district, but all evacuees have since returned home as the flood situation improved. 

The government allocated 1,200 metric tonnes of rice and TK 95 lakh in relief. Of this, 1,080 metric tonnes of rice, TK 83 lakh 75 thousand and 56,100 packets of dry food have already been distributed, while relief operations are continuing.

Work has also begun to restore badly damaged roads and reconnect transport links at 29 critical points, including eight in Banshkhali, 10 in Satkania, six in Chandanaish, two in Raozan and three in Rangunia, with support from local administrations and public representatives.

The Chattogram District Information Office has continued public awareness campaigns.

According to the latest report from the Khagrachhari District Information Office, there is currently no rainfall in the district and no new incidents of landslides or hill collapses have occurred and floodwaters have receded from most areas.

The report said 275 houses were extensively damaged and 766 partially damaged, although assessment work is still underway. 

According to the Department of Agricultural Extension, crop losses amounted to TK 1120.98 lakh, affecting 7,344 farmers, while losses in the fisheries sector stood at Taka 651 lakh.

A total of 150 shelters were opened in the district. Relief assistance included 400 metric tonnes of rice, Taka 40 lakh and 46 bundles of corrugated sheets. 

Relief stocks currently include 100 metric tonnes of rice, Taka 9 lakh 50 thousand and 46 bundles of corrugated sheets. 

The Khagrachhari District Information Office has continued public awareness campaigns on landslides, floods and post-flood safety measures since the onset of heavy rainfall.

The latest report from the Cox's Bazar District Information Office said the district recorded 5 millimetres of rainfall over the past 24 hours, with no new incidents of landslides or hill collapses. 

A total of 2,475 houses were extensively damaged and 5,773 partially damaged.

According to the Agriculture Department, crop losses amounted to TK 80 crore, while losses in the fisheries sector reached Taka 46 crore 22 lakh. 

A total of 640 shelters were opened in the district, and relief assistance included 445 metric tonnes of rice and Taka 49 lakh 50 thousand. 

Public awareness campaigns and microphone announcements have continued since the beginning of heavy rainfall.

According to the latest report from the Habiganj District Information Office, flash floods caused by erosion of the Khoai River inundated Habiganj Sadar, Bahubal and Baniachang upazilas, leaving 4,550 families stranded. 

Water has started receding as rainfall has decreased. The district recorded 6.5 millimetres of rainfall over the past 24 hours, with no incidents of landslides reported. 

Two shelters were opened for flood victims, while dry food has been distributed through the district administration. Control rooms have been opened at the district and upazila levels. Public awareness activities by the Habiganj District Information Office are continuing.

The latest report from the Moulvibazar District Information Office said the flood situation has improved in 12 unions under Moulvibazar Sadar and Rajnagar upazilas. 

The government opened six shelters for flood victims and distributed Taka 7 lakh 50 thousand among the affected people. 

The district information office has continued awareness campaigns on landslides, floods and post-flood safety measures since the onset of heavy rainfall.

According to the latest report from the Bandarban District Information Office, the disaster situation in the district has now returned to normalcy. 

A total of Taka lakh has been distributed among those affected. The district information office has continued public awareness campaigns and film screenings on landslides, floods and post-flood preparedness since the beginning of the heavy rainfall.
