Court orders to freeze bank lockers of S K Sur, family

DHAKA, Jan 22, 2025 (BSS) - The Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court here today ordered to freeze all the lockers available in different banks of former Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB) S K Sur Chowdhury and his family members.

Zakir Hossain Galib, Judge of the court passed the order following a petition submitted by the investigation officer of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). 

The court instructed the concerned authorities to deposit Taka 16,25,000  to the government treasury which was recovered earlier from the residence of Mr. Sur.
 
It also ordered to take measures for chemical examination of his two mobile sets for the sake of investigation.

The ACC in its petition claimed that investigation against S K Sur Chowdhury, his wife Suparna Sur Chowdhury and daughter Nandita Sur Chowdhury are going on their alleged involvement in tax evasion, acquiring illegal wealth, money laundering through transfer and conversion of currencies. 

The investigating authority suspected that they may transfer the assets kept in their lockers to other places before filing regular cases against them. 

The ACC with the help of the Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested S K Sur Chowdhury from city’s Segunbagicha area on January 14. The court later sent him to the jail custody.
