BCL leader held over July uprising case in Demra

DHAKA, May 26, 2025 (BSS) - The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) of police on Sunday arrested a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from the capital's Matuail area in an attempted murder case linked to the anti-discrimination student movement.
 
The arrestee has been identified as Imran Hossain (32), former general secretary of Faridpur Medical College Chhatra League.

A team of the CTTC arrested Imran from the Matuail area under ??Demra Police Station around 9:30 pm on Sunday with the help of information technology, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan of Police (DMP) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed.

Imran Hossain is an accused in an attempted murder case filed with Mirpur Model Police Station during the anti-discrimination movement on September 3, 2024.

According to the case details, thousands of students and people joined the anti-discrimination movement in the Mirpur-10 Falpatti area of ??the capital on July 19, 2024.

At that time, leaders and activists of Awami League and its front and associate organizations started indiscriminately firing on the agitating people. The victim Hridoy sustained critical injuries in the firing.
