DHAKA, May 29, 2025 (BSS) - The BNP-Jamaat-affiliated teachers' organization, Sada Dal (White Panel) of Dhaka University (DU) today expressed satisfaction over the acquittal of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman in all cases.

In a statement signed by its President Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam and Secretary General Professor Dr. Md Morshed Hasan Khan, the group welcomed the verdict, stating, "The community of teachers is very pleased with the acquittal of Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman from all charges."

They further expressed optimism that Tarique Rahman would return to Bangladesh and dedicate himself to serving public.

The statement was issued a day after the High Court (HC) acquitted Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman of corruption charges in which they were convicted and sentenced to different jail terms in 2023.

The statement from Sada Dal described the case as "false and politically motivated," and said the acquittal by the apex court affirmed this.

The statement also criticized the previous judicial proceedings, accusing the government of political interference. It alleged that the trial was rushed, with testimonies from 42 witnesses being recorded in just 21 days, some even at night "by candlelight."

Earlier, on August 2, 2023, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Asaduzzaman sentenced Tarique Rahman to nine years and Zubaida Rahman to three years in prison in the case.

The ACC filed the case with the city's Kafrul Police Station against three, including Tarique Rahman and Zubaida Rahman,

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs suspended Zubaida Rahman's sentence for one year on September 22, 2024.
