Ad-hoc Bar Council formed with attorney general as its chairman

DHAKA, May 29, 2025 (BSS) - The government has formed the Ad-hoc Bar Council, the regulatory body of lawyers, with Attorney General of Bangladesh as its Chairman as an ex-officio.

The Ad-hoc Bar Council will be effective for a period of one year from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026, according to a notification issued by the Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry on Wednesday.  

The government has formed the Ad-hoc Bar Council under the powers vested on it in Article-8 of The Bangladesh Legal Practitioner's and Bar Council Order, 1972 (President's Order)

The members of the Ad-hoc committee are- Senior Supreme Court lawyers, Advocate  Zainul Abedin, Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, Advocate Abdullah Al-Mamun, Barrister A.M. Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Advocate Shah Md. Khasruzzaman, Advocate Md Nazrul Islam Khan and Advocate Md. Abdul Matin.

Lawyers of local bar associations, Advocate Md. Mohsin Miah of Dhaka Bar Association. Advocate ASM Badrul Anwar of Chittagong District Bar Association, Advocate A.T.M. Foyaz Uddin of Sylhet District Bar Association, Advocate Kazi Enayet Hossain Bachchu of Barishal District Bar Association, Advocate Md. Mainul Ahsan of Rajshahi District Bar Association and Advocate Md. Shafiqul Islam of Bogura District Bar Association have also been made members of the Ad-hoc Bar Council.
