Ex JnU Prof Anowara sent to jail in murder attempt case

DHAKA, May 29, 2025 (BSS) – A court here today sent to jail Freedom Fighter and former teacher of Jagannath University (JnU) Professor Anowara Begum in a case lodged over attempt to murder Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Sujon Mollah during July mass uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman passed the order as police produced the retired teacher before the court and pleaded to keep her behind bars till   end of probe.

A team of Sutrapur police station arrested Professor Anowara Begum from in front of JnU on May 28.

According to the case documents, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal JnU unit brought out an anti-discrimination rally in front of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on July 19, last year. The rally came under attack and Sujon Mollah, the  then general secretary of JnU unit Chhatra Dal, was  shot at  his left eye. He was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent treatment for long.

The victim on February 25 filed the case with Sutrapur police station against 193 including 94 leaders and activists of now banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
