AL leader Giash remanded in BNP leader Ishraq's convoy attack case

CHATTOGRAM, May 29, 2025 (BSS) -  A  court here has granted a three-day remand for the interrogation of Awami League (AL) leader Gias Uddin in a case filed against him for allegedly attacking BNP leader Ishraq Hossain's convoy.

Judicial Magistrate Farzana Yasmin issued the remand order after police produced him before the court and pleaded for a seven-day remand in the case filed at Mirsarai thana in connection with the attack on Ishraq Hossain's convoy,  Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) Md. Mofiz Uddin told BSS.

However, after the hearing, the court granted a three-day remand.

Gias Uddin is the former vice-president of Chattogram North District Awami League and was the Mirsarai Upazila Chairman. He contested the January 7, 2024 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate from Mirsarai constituency. 

He was arrested at 5.00am on last Friday, (May 23),  while returning home from America with his wife, in connection with a case filed at Mirsarai Police Station, police said.

On October 12, 2022, Ishraq Hossain, on his way to BNP's divisional mass rally in Chattogram, was attacked by Awami League leaders and activists in the Mirsarai Municipality Sadar area of the district.

About 30 vehicles were vandalized at that time. 

On August 5, 2024, after the ousted of Awami League government in a mass uprising by students and the public, Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, joint convener of Feni Sadar Upazila Jubo Dal, filed a case with Mirsarai Police Station on October 24.
