ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, Kushtia, May 30, 2025 (BSS) - The 44th martyrdom anniversary of former President of Bangladesh, Major Ziaur Rahman, was observed today at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia with great remembrance of his contribution to the country.

The day's events began with a large mourning rally, which started from the university's administrative building.

The procession moved through the campus and the adjacent main road before concluding at the university's foundation stone.

Following the rally, IU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah, along with Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Prof Dr. Jahangir Alam and Registrar Prof Dr. Manjurul Haque, paid homage by placing a floral wreath at the foundation stone.

IU proctor Prof Dr Shahinuzzaman, student adviser Prof Dr Obayedul Islam, Zia Parishad Convener Prof Dr Farukuzzaman Khan, Secretary Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam, theology and islamic studies faculty dean Prof Dr ABM Siddiqur Rahman Asrafi and others were also present there.

In addition to the university administration, members of the Zia Parishad, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and various residential halls also placed floral wreaths in memory of the late president.

To mark the occasion, food was distributed among underprivileged people at the faculty building. 

Marking the day, food was also distributed among miserable peoples at the faculty building, and a 'Doa Mahfil' also held at the central mosque after Juma prayer, attended by VC Dr Nasrullah, Pro-VC Dr Ali, Treasurer Dr Alam and others. 

Speaking on the occasion, VC Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah said, "Today we honor the memory of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman through an administrative initiative that transcends political affiliations. He was instrumental in establishing the first university in independent Bangladesh."
