DNCC removes waterlogging effectively: Administrator

DHAKA, May 30, 2025 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) administrator Mohammad Azaz today said the authority has been able to quickly and effectively remove waterlogging caused by sudden heavy rains in various areas of the city because of its timely steps and preparation. 

“Before beginning the monsoon, more than 100 kilometers of about 29 canals including Abdullahpur Canal, Baunia Canal, Kalyanpur Canal, Rupnagar Canal, and Mohakhali Canal in Dhaka have been cleaned this year. Due to this, it has become possible to quickly and effectively removed waterlogging caused by sudden rains,” he said after inspecting the activities of the Quick Response Team (QRT) in various areas of Dhaka today.

To resolve the waterlogging caused by sudden heavy rains in the city, DNCC authority has set up a control room with an activated hotline number and formed a quick response team on an emergency basis that has started functioning from yesterday morning. 

During his visit to waterlogged areas, DNCC administrator instructed the Superintendent Engineer (Drainage) to identify the hotspots of waterlogging through GIS maps and submit a report to him to resolve it in a more effective manner in the future.

According to the information provided by the Quick Response Team, about fifty complaints have been received from different areas of Dhaka. 
Based on the complaints, waterlogging has been resolved in Dhanmondi 27, Ashkona, Banasree, Begun Tila, West Kazipara, Kathalbagan, Moghbazar Doctor Goli, Jamuna Future Park, Paris Road, Kazipara Metro Station, Kawla, Khilkhet Battala, Kazipara Bashundhara Lane, Agargaon 60 Feet Road, Bhanga Bridge, Mirpur 14, West Sheorapara Metro Rail Pillar No. 360, Rupnagar Road No. 33 to 39, Ibrahimpur Bazar, Road No. 18 of Uttara Sector Sector-3, Malibagh Chowdhurypara and Pallabi Begun Tila areas. 

Local residents said that the waterlogging on Bhatara Main Road, Faser Tech Road, Wajuddin Road, and Sarkarbari intersection in Ward No. 40 of DNCC was resolved overnight.

Water has already been removed from Mirpur Section-10 Roundabout, Kalshi Road, Mirpur Section-1, Rupnagar. Work was underway to remove waterlogging from Begun Tila and Paris Road.

Nearly 200 workers have worked to resolve waterlogging in 10 regions under DNCC.
