DHAKA, May 31, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury today said only 4-5 parties, which don’t have even registration with the Election Commission and have no connection with the people, do not want elections.
“There were like kings' parties during the One-Eleven too. I do not want to say these things because saying these things creates division within the nation, we do not want that,” he told a discussion at Jatiya Press Club here.
Zia Parishad organized the discussion marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP Founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
Noting national election must be held by December, Khasru said when any investor comes to invest in the country, they ask when the election will be held.
“We want to see an elected government, an elected opposition party and an elected parliament,” he said.
“If someone says that only one party wants an election, is it true? Such a statement is embarrassing for us, the nation is being confused. Already 52 political parties that have united with us in the movement against Sheikh Hasina want an election by December,” he said.
Mentioning that a lot of big changes came after Sheikh Hasina’s ouster, he said those politicians and political parties that cannot understand its significance have no future in Bangladesh.
“BNP will keep the country free from tyranny even if it comes to power. The way BNP leaders and activists fought to oust a tyrannical, fascist government and restore civil rights when they were in the opposition, even if they come to power, it will remain intact. It will keep the country free from fascists," he said.
BNP Chairperson's Advisor Moazzem Hossain Alal, Zia Parishad President Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, Secretary General Dr. Md. Emtaz Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Dr. Md. Abdul Latif, among others, spoke on the occasion with Vice-Chairman of Zia Parishad Md. Shafiqul Islam in the chair.
