NARSINGDI, May 31, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee Member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan today said BNP wants elections because it believes in democracy and the path to democracy is a fair election.

“BNP believes in the people, rule of law and independent judicial system. Therefore, it has been repeatedly demanding fair elections,” he told a discussion here.

Ghorashal Upazila and Municipal units of BNP organized the discussion marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP Founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Ghorashal Municipal Auditorium in the district.

Moyeen said those who are critical about election, they want to come to power through backdoors. “They are afraid of elections because, they are afraid of the people. They know that they won’t be able to be true representatives of the people,” he said.

The BNP leader said seeking fair elections cannot be a crime. A party is opposing the transition to democracy that BNP is talking about after August 5, he said.

Upazila BNP General Secretary Saiful Haque, Ghorashal Municipality BNP General Secretary Delwar Hossain, Upazila Juba Dal President Nesar Ahmed, Thana Chhatra Dal President Nazmul Hossain Sohel spoke on the occasion with Palash Upazila BNP Acting President Abdus Sattar in the chair.
