Govt brings 4 cargoes LNG for supplying gas to industry

DHAKA, June 01, 2025 (BSS) - Power, energy and mineral resources adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has said the government has brought four additional cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to increase gas supply to industries.

"One of the cargoes arrived but it was delayed for two days in docking due to adverse weather conditions," he said while visiting industrial areas of Ashulia, Chandra, Kaliakoir, Mirzapur, Gazipur and Bhaluka yesterday (Saturday). 

The adviser said the LNG has already started to be transferred from the ship to the transmission line. 

Industry owners confirmed that gas pressure in the industrial sector was visible since last evening, he said.

The adviser inspected BEPZA, pharmaceutical, footwear, textile, spinning, ceramic, towel and steel manufacturing companies and exchanged views with owners concerned. 

During the visit, he said a section of unscrupulous businessmen and Titas officials were responsible for illegal gas connection. 

"Administrative action is being taken against them," Fouzul Kabir Khan said. 

He said local administration, gas and electricity companies and the joint forces will start campaign against illegal gas connections. 

Replying to a question, he said that there were some problems in transmission line in the electricity sector, but work is underway to resolve those. 

The adviser hoped problem of electricity and gas supply in industrial establishments will be resolved soon. 

During the visit, he gave instructions to regularly inspect the energy and power supply situation in various industrial areas and industrial establishments in coordination with senior officials of the power and energy sector. 

The adviser was accompanied by Energy Division secretary Mohammad Saiful Islam, Petrobangla Chairman Md Rezanur Rahman, Titas Gas Limited MD Shahnewaz Parvez, PDB Chairman Md Rezaul Karim, REB Chairman Major General SM Zia-ul-Azim and officials concerned.
