DHAKA, June 2, 2025 (BSS) – Japan government will support to set up a Medical Waste Management Centre in Kushtia District through the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGHSP).
The project, is expected to solve the social and environmental problems caused by medical waste as well as to improve the living and sanitary environment of Kushtia, Jhenaidah, Meherpur, and Chuadanga Districts.
The project, to be implemented by a non-government organization name “PRISM Bangladesh Foundation”, will improve the health and safety of approximately 245 people involved in waste collection and disposal, and 1.94 million residents in Kushtia Pourashava.
Japan embassy’s First Secretary Karasawa Shinju and Second Secretary Makiguchi Yasuyuki visited Kushtia District to attend the inauguration ceremony of the project held today, said a Japan Embassy press release here today.
“I hope this centre will contribute to improve the health and safety of people involved in waste collection, and the living and sanitary environment of the residents”, stated Karasawa.
Japan has supported 221 NGO projects through GGHSP since 1989, with the view to enhancing economic and social human security in the grass-roots levels. The total sum of these GGHSP grants extended to approximately USD 17.5 million, said the release.
