One gets life-term for raping a minor in Sabujbagh

DHAKA, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - A Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal here today awarded life-term imprisonment to a tea-shop owner for raping an 11-year girl in city’s Sabujbagh area.

 Golam Kabir, Judge of the tribunal number-3, pronounced the judgment in presence of the accused Morshed Alam Sheikh. The court also fined him Taka one lakh in addition to the conviction, in default, he would have to suffer another six month imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, accused Morshed Alam Sheikh, 50, a tea-shop owner of Dakkhin Khan area under Sabujbagh Thana, often raped the victim alluring and threatening her. On August 28 in 2022, the accused again raped the girl. Following the incident, mother of the victim on September 3 in 2022 filed a case against Morshed with Sabujbagh Thana. Sub-Inspector Azmin Nahar Kiron after investigating the case submitted charge sheet on January 17 in 2023.
