DHAKA, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed today said everyone must work together to fulfill the aspirations of all the martyrs of the July mass uprising.

"Currently, we stand on the blood of the martyrs. Their aspirations and expectations were immense. If we fail to fulfill those aspirations now, Bangladesh will fail as a state in the future. For this reason, we all must remain united," he said.

The senior BNP leader added that the anti-fascist national unity that has emerged, transcending party lines, should serve as a platform for all parties.

Salahuddin Ahmed was delivering a felicitation speech at an event marking the 13th founding anniversary of Nagorik Oikya, a political party in the country which commenced its journey on June 1, 2012. Since its inception, Nagorik Oikya fought uncompromisingly against the ousted autocratic Sheikh Hasina government.

President of Nagorik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna presided over the event at the auditorium of National Press club. Leaders from various political parties joined it.

Salahuddin said, "Whatever our individual ideals may be, we must share a common ideal. An ideal for which we all seek the liberation and economic emancipation of the people, for which we all strive to build a welfare state, a strong democratic nation, and a state free from discrimination, founded on equality, human dignity and social justice. For this, we all can practically unite."

Referring to the fall of Sheikh Hasina's fascist rule, he said, "We knew fascism would fall. However, we didn't know when it would happen. We didn't know when the fall was destined to occur, by what process, or at the cost of how much bloodshed. But we knew this fascism would fall; the seeds of its downfall had already been sown. Nagorik Oikya and Gonotontra Mancha, among other parties, are intertwined with that history."

Highlighting Nagorik Oikya's contribution to national politics, he said, "The role Nagorik Oikya has played in a short period in the history of movements, struggles, and the politics of this country will undoubtedly be remembered in history."
