DHAKA, June 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed travel ban on former expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmed and former state minister for shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.
Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders following two separate petitions submitted by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
In the petition against Imran Ahmed, the ACC alleged that he as a public representative and Member of Parliament (MP) of the 12th parliament from Sylhet-4 constituency illegally acquired wealth worth about Taka 90,67,000 that is contrary to his known source of income. He also transacted Taka 3,06,00,000 through his five bank accounts and he has already withdrawn Taka 2,97,00,000 from those accounts.
The ACC has already lodged a corruption and money laundering case against the former minister. The ACC came to know that the accused has been trying to leave the country to avoid the investigation so that a travel ban must be imposed on him.
In another petition, the ACC alleged that former state minister and Member of Parliament from Dinajpur-2 constituency Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury as a public representative has acquired Taka 5.73 crore illegally which is beyond his known source of income. He also made suspicious transactions of Taka 13.68 crore through his 11 bank accounts and five credit cards.
The ACC also filed a corruption and money laundering case against him as he transferred, handed over and converted the assets and properties to others. Te commission came to know that the accused has been trying to leave the country to avoid investigation that is why the ACC prayed for imposing a travel ban on him.
The court after hearing both the petitions imposed travel ban on both ministers of the ousted government for the interest of the investigation.
