DHAKA, June 29, 2025 (BSS)- Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas today said the name of BNP is being used for extortion in various parts of the country.

"BNP's name is being used for extortion. Party activists are being instructed to resist such extortionists. If anyone extorts money using Mirza Abbas's name, catch them and hand them over to the police," he said.

The BNP leader made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a membership drive and renewal programme of the Ramna Thana unit BNP at the auditorium of the Diploma Engineers' Association in Kakrail, Dhaka.

Mirza Abbas said, BNP will not allow its reputation to be tarnished by a few culprits within the country and the party itself.

He emphasized that bad people should not be admitted into the party. If necessary, no one should be taken in, as "an empty cowshed is better than a mischievous cow."

He further said that they have been working tirelessly to maintain the party's good reputation since the time of Begum Khaleda Zia.

Mirza Abbas stressed the importance of protecting the party's reputation, stating that BNP is not a bad party. He said the damage caused by the previous fascist government must be compensated through BNP's good deeds.

About the Proportional Representation (PR) system proposed by some political parties, he said, various individuals are making different demands to postpone the election. Some are newly proposing the PR system.

"We all know their intentions," He added.
