DHAKA, June 30, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today placed former Jubo Mohila League Dhaka North city president Sabina Akter Tuhin and former Awami League Dhaka South city general secretary Shahe Alam Murad on remand in two separate cases.

Tuhin, also a former AL lawmaker from a reserved seat, was placed on a two-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. Murad was placed on a one-day remand in connection with the Abdul Motaleb murder case filed at Dhanmondi Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra issued the remand orders after police sought seven days for Tuhin and five days for Murad.

Authorities detained Tuhin on June 23 from her parental home in Awna village, Sholla union, Nawabganj upazila. The Detective Branch (DB) earlier arrested Murad from Dhaka's Uttara area on April 17.

According to the case documents, on April 4, members of the now-banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo Mohila League held a rally in front of the Planning Ministry, chanting anti-government and anti-state slogans. Police allege the rally promoted banned and terrorist organizations, prompting them to file a case.

In a separate incident, teenager Abdul Motaleb was shot and killed during an anti-discrimination rally at Jigatola Bus Stand on August 4, 2024. His father, Abdul Matin, later filed a case on August 26 against 176 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
