Ex-MP Momtaz, 2 others shown arrested in fresh cases

DHAKA, June 30, 2025 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today showed three people including former Member of Parliament (MP) from Manikganj-2 constituency and singer Momtaz Begum, arrested in cases lodged over killings that took place during the July-August Mass Uprising.

The other two people who have been shown arrested today are former home secretary Jahangir Alam and former superintendent of police Md Asaduzzaman.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra passed the orders, showing Momtaz arrested in the case lodged over the killing of Shaon Mufti with Kotwali Police Station. The court also showed Jahangir arrested in the Shamim murder case filed with the city's Dhanmandi Police Station, while Asaduzzaman was shown arrested in Jatrabari's Mainuddin killing case.

The court later sent the three back to jail.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Momtaz Begum from the city's Dhanmondi area on May 12. She was placed on a four-day remand the next day in a case lodged over the murder of one Md Sagor during the July-August Mass Uprising.
