Indian sarees, cosmetics worth Tk 5.5cr seized in Sunamganj border

DHAKA, June 30, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a special raid early today seized a large consignment of smuggled Indian sarees, lehengas, cosmetics, and chocolates worth over Tk 5.5 crore from a border area in Sunamganj district.

The BGB personnel seized the smuggled item lying abandoned in a special raid at a tin-shed godown in Harinapati village on the border of Rangarchar Union in Sunamganj Sadar Upazila around 2:30am, said a BGB press release.

 Acting on secret information, a joint task force consisting of BGB and police personnel seized 4,286 pieces of Indian sarees, 13 pieces of lehengas, 4,992 pieces of cosmetics and 20,120 pieces of chocolates in an abandoned condition from the godown. The estimated value of the seized items is Tk 5,54,71,520.

 In this regard, Sunamganj Battalion Commander Lt. Col. AKM Zakaria Qadir said that the BGB's operational activities and intelligence activities are continuing to maintain border security and prevent smuggling.

 The process of depositing the seized items is under process.
