3 dacoits arrested with looted money, micro bus from Jhalkathi

DHAKA, June 30, 2025(BSS) - Motijheel Thana Police have arrested three dacoits from Jhalkathi during their three-day drive and seized a microbus used in dacoity and recovered looted money amounting to Taka 89,000 from their possessions. 

The arrested dacoits are-Md Shamim Rahman, 29, Md Mizan Rahman,51, and Rabiul Islam Juwel,42, according to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release here today.

A team of Motijheel Thana along with local police raided different areas of Jhalkathi district from June 27 to June 29 and arrested the trio who committed a dacoity in the city’s Motijheel commercial area on June 26 personifying themselves as the officials of the Detective Branch (DB) of police. 

The arrested dacoits along with their accomplices ridding on a microbus stopped Md Khalil Miah, 26, and Ibrahim Hossain Rifat,24, just in front of Ghoroa Hotel at Motijheel at about 1:00 pm on June 26.

Khalil and Rifat, the employees of a business house of Nawabpur Road under Wari Thana, were carrying Taka 30,00,000 to deposit to a bank. They were carrying the money from their owner. 

The dacoits personified themselves as DB official and picked up both the youths along with the money. 

The dacoits beat up Khalil and Ibrahim indiscriminately and snatched the money away from them. They later tied up the hands and legs of Khalil and Ibrahim and left them at a dustbin near Sign board bus stand. 

On hearing the hue and cry of Khalil and Ibrahim, local people took them to a nearby private hospital from where they were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment. 

Md Saidul Islam, owner of the business house later filed a case with Motijheel Thana in this connection.

Police said the arrested dacoits are the member of a professional dacoit’s gang. Arrested Mizan is also an accused in two dacoity cases with Araihajar and Rajapur police stations.
