Main accused of double murder case in Pirojpur arrested

DHAKA, July 1, 2025 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the main accused of a double murder case in Indurkani upazila of Pirozpur district from the city’s Dakkhin Khan area on Monday.

Police and RAB sources said, a team of RAB-2, acting on a tip off, arrested Yunus Ali Sheikh from the house number 22 at Haji Sabur Khan Road of Azompur area under Dakkhin Khan Thana at about 11:00pm last night. 

The RAB officials, after the arrest, handed over Yunus Sheikh to city’s Mohammadpur Thana following a requisition from Indurkani Thana. He was later taken to Indurkani Thana for taking further lawful actions.

Indurkani Police said the arrested Yunus Ali Sheikh, a Saudi expatriate, was trying to flee the country to avoid arrest. He also booked an air ticket from Jazeera Airways to go to Saudi Arabia by a flight through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on July 2, police said.

Md Masruf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Indurkani Thana said that the accused has already taken to Pirozpur court for taking him into remand. Police is trying to nab the other accused of the case, the OC added.

Police said, Shahidul Islam,50, an elected member of Chandipur union of the upazila and his sister-in-law (elder brother’s wife) Mukul Begum were chopped to death by a gang of miscreants led by Yunus Sheikh at about 11:00 pm on June 27 last. 

Rehena Begum, wife of Shahidul Islam was also injured critically during the attack. 

Mortoza Hawlader, elder brother of Shahidul Islam later filed a case with Indurkani Thana mentioning the names of six persons including Yunus Sheikh.
