Three suspects held for mugging in guise of DB

DHAKA, July 1, 2025 (BSS) - Police in separate raids in Dhaka and Jhalokathi district in three days from Friday to Sunday arrested three suspects in a case filed for snatching away Taka 30 lakh from two traders impersonating them Detective Branch (DB) personnel.  
 
They also seized a Hiace car used in the mugging and Taka 89,000 in cash from their possessions. 
 
The detainees have been identified as Md. Shamim Rahman (29), Md. Mizan Rahman (51) and Rabiul Islam Jewel (42), a police press release said.
 
Earlier on Thursday, two people named Md. Khalil Mia (26) and Ibrahim Hossain Rifat (24) left a business establishment in Nawabpur, Wari, on a scooter to deposit Taka 30 lakh to Motijheel City Bank branch. 
 
As soon as they reached in front of a hotel in Motijheel area six to seven people identified themselves as DB police forcibly took them to a Hiace microbus inscribed with DB on it. 
 
Later, they beat the two after tying their hands and feet and took Taka 30 lakh from them after throwing them in a dustbin at Signboard Bus Stand and fled the scene. 
 
Local people rescued them and took them Pro-Active Hospital in Signboard area from where they were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.
 
 A case was filed with Motijheel Police Station in this connection.
