DHAKA, July 14, 2025 (BSS) — Celebrated Lalon Geeti singer Farida Parveen, who has been undergoing treatment in Universal Medical College and Hospital (Ayesha Memorial Hospital) in Mohakhali since July 5, has shown signs of improvement.

The 70-year-old singer, who was admitted with kidney complications, diabetes and other age-related ailments, was shifted to a cabin from ICU today.

Her son, Imam Zafar Nomani, confirmed the update through a post on social media.

“Amma (Farida Parveen) has just been shifted from the ICU to a cabin, Alhamdulillah,” he wrote on Facebook.

“The doctor said that if visitors cannot be controlled, the situation will return to the same as before. I request everyone again not to crowd the hospital.”

The news of Parveen’s illness has deeply concerned fans and admirers across the country and beyond. Widely regarded as a living legend of Lalon Geeti, Farida Parveen has long been a revered figure in Bangladesh's musical and cultural landscape.

Prominent political figures have also expressed their concern.

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was reportedly shocked to hear of the singer’s condition.

She directed BNP Joint Secretary General Emran Saleh Prince to visit the hospital and inquire about Parveen’s health. Prince visited on Thursday night and met with the singer’s family, conveying Begum Zia’s message of support and prayers.

Earlier, on July 9, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also visited the hospital to check on the singer’s  health condition and offer his best wishes.

Farida Parveen’s contributions to Bangladeshi folk music, particularly her interpretation of the spiritual works of Lalon Shah, have earned her national and international acclaim.
