KHULNA, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - Former lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency, Mizanur Rahman Mizan was sent back to jail today after being shown arrested in a fresh case, just hours after his release on bail in all pending cases.

Khulna Detective Branch (DB) Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taimur Islam said Mizan was implicated in a case filed on March 18, 2024, in which he has been accused of criminal involvement.

The DB police produced Mizan before the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Anisur Rahman, seeking his remand in custody. The court, however, rejected the plea and ordered him to be sent to jail.

According to the case statement, a group of Awami League men, allegedly demanded Tk 5 lakh in extortion from Fashion Zone by Linda, a business outlet at Royal Mor in Khulna.

They later vandalized the establishment, looted valuables and exploded crude bombs before fleeing.

Earlier, on January 30, 2025, Dhaka's Special Judge Court-3 sentenced Mizan to eight years' imprisonment for amassing illegal wealth beyond known sources of income.

Mizan also faces four other cases lodged with different police stations in Khulna, OC Taimur said.

On May 29, he was shown arrested in a case filed over vandalism and looting at the residence of Khulna City BNP president Shafiqul Alam Mona during last year's July 28 incident.

Despite securing bail in all those cases and walking out of prison yesterday, the former lawmaker was re-arrested soon afterwards and has now been returned to jail.
