DHAKA, Aug 28, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Environment (DoE) today conducted special drives countrywide against the production, sale, supply, and marketing of banned polythene.
Six mobile courts conducted drives in Chandpur, Pirojpur, Munshiganj, Cumilla, and in Dhaka city’s Darussalam and Chawkbazar areas, said a press release.
A total of nine cases were filed, Taka 266,500 was fined and 1,245 kg of banned polythene was seized.
One polythene factory was sealed off and its operations shut down. Awareness messages were delivered and leaflets distributed in several markets, supermarkets, and shops.
Six mobile court drives were carried out in Sirajganj, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Rajbari, Shariatpur, and Tangail districts.
A total of 21 cases were filed, Taka 23,900, was fined while 34 hydraulic horns were confiscated. Several vehicle drivers were also cautioned.
Three mobile court drives were conducted in Chapainawabganj, Savar (Dhaka district), and Shyamoli in Dhaka city against air pollution caused by construction materials, lead emissions from used batteries, and tire pyrolysis factories. Two cases were filed and Taka 107,000 was fined.
Several factory owners were cautioned, and instructions were given to immediately remove illegally stored construction materials. In addition, five polluting and illegal factories in Chapainawabganj and Savar had their electricity connections disconnected, shutting down their operations entirely.
Furthermore, in Mirpur, Dhaka city, an enforcement drive was conducted against illegal factories. Five factories were disconnected from the power supply and their operations completely shut down.
DoE stated that such anti-pollution drives will continue to protect the environment and public health.
