DHAKA, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged their party leaders and activists to connect with the people through good work.
"Don't think you have already come to power. You are not even close to power. Many conspiracies and plots are underway. You must go to the people with good work," he said as the chief guest at a function to unveil a book - "Raktakta July (Bloody July)", authored by Syeda Fatema Salam - at the National Press Club here.
Fakhrul said that reaching the desired goal of democratic transition is possible only if all political parties move forward collectively, adding, "Our struggle seems to be fading."
"If an election doesn't take place, the risk of fascism returning will increase," he warned.
The BNP secretary general said attempts to bring back fascism are being made not only from within the country but also from abroad.
He emphasized that the desired state system could be achieved only through a free, fair and neutral election.
He mentioned that BNP was the first party to propose reforms. Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman introduced multi-party democracy and media freedom, while Khaleda Zia brought in parliamentary democracy, he added.
Mirza Fakhrul countered the allegations that BNP is anti-reform, saying, "All reforms (in the country) have been brought about by the BNP."
He accused some political parties of trying to discredit the BNP through false propaganda, saying, "We must not give anyone the opportunity to say that the BNP does bad things."
Mirza Fakhrul concluded by saying that the people of the country are eager for change, and it is the BNP's responsibility to turn those public expectations into reality.
The event was presided over by poet and journalist Abdul Hai Sikdar while Adviser to BNP's Acting Chairman Dr. Mahadi Amin was present as the key speaker.
