Final candidate list for JUCSU election published

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS) - The final list of candidates for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) election was published today, with 179 contestants cleared to run for various posts, including 10 for vice-president (VP) and nine for general secretary (GS).

The announcement came at a press briefing at the Senate Hall of the old administrative building, where JUCSU Election Commission Member-Secretary Prof. Dr. A K M Rashidul Alam briefed journalists. 

Commission members Prof. Mafruhi Sattar and Prof. Dr. Kh Lutful Elahi were also present.

According to the list, six candidates will vie for the joint general secretary (female) post, 10 for joint general secretary (male), nine for education and research secretary, six for environment and nature conservation secretary, eight for literature and publication secretary, eight for cultural secretary, eight for assistant cultural secretary, five for drama secretary and three for sports secretary.

In addition, six candidates each will contest the posts of assistant sports secretary (female and male), seven for information technology and library secretary, eight for social service and human resource development secretary, seven each for assistant social service and human resource development secretary (female and male), seven for health and food security secretary and seven for transport and communication secretary.

Meanwhile, 16 candidates will compete for three reserved executive member posts for female students, while 26 will vie for three executive member posts for male students. 

A total of 46 female candidates are contesting different positions, including two for the GS post.

As per the election schedule, campaigning will continue from August 29 until midnight of September 9. Polling is set for September 11 between 9 am and 5 pm.

This marks the 10th edition of the JUCSU polls, being held after a long gap of 33 years since the last election in 1990.
