Progressive students announce ‘Shompritir Oikya’ panel for JUCSU polls

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Aug 29, 2025 (BSS)- A group of progressive students today announced a full panel titled ‘Shompritir Oikya’ to contest the long-awaited Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) election.

Former Jahangirnagar University Debate Organization President Taposhi Dey Prapti announced the panel this afternoon at the Sangsoptok Sculpture premises in front of the central library. 

According to the announcement, Amartya Ray, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU) JU unit (Amartya-Riddhya faction) and a 47th batch Archaeology student will contest for the post of Vice-President (VP) while Sharan Ehsan, a 47th batch student of Drama and Dramatics and former president of Jahangirnagar Sangskritik Jote has been nominated for General Secretary (GS).

Candidates in other key posts are- Nur E Tamim Srot for Joint General Secretary (Male); Faria Jaman Niki Joint General Secretary (Female); Sukanta Barman for Education and Research Secretary; Soma Dumri for Environment and Nature Conservation Secretary; and Atiqur Rahman Jony  for Literature and Publication Secretary.

Rahatul Ferdous Ratri was announced for the post of Cultural Secretary while Maymuna Binte Saiful will contest as Assistant Cultural Secretary. 

The Drama Secretary post went to Egimi Chakma while no candidate was placed for the post of Sports Secretary as national footballer Mahmudul Hasan Kiran is contesting for the post.

Assistant Sports Secretary (Female) will be contested by Protyasha Tripura and Assistant Sports Secretary (Male) by Rengthri Mro.

Other nominated posts include - Mahfuz Ahmed for Information Technology and Library Secretary; Abrar Haque Bin Sazed for Social Welfare and Human Resource Development (HRD) Secretary; Mayisha Moni for Assistant Social Welfare and HRD Secretary (Female); Tajun Islam for Assistant Social Welfare and HRD Secretary (Male); Labiba Mubasshira Ishadi for Health and Food Security Secretary; and Simanto Bordon for Transport and Communication Secretary.

For executive member posts, three female candidates - Arifa Jannat Mukta, Anika Tabassum Farabi and Adritha Roy have been nominated. 

Four male candidates in the post of executive members are- Nihla Ong Marma, Soikat Kumar Kanu, Chui Thui Proo Marma, and Erfanul Islam Iftu.
